Threatened Species
Black-necked Stork & Comb-crested Jacana
WCA's Garry Owers has completed this project (funded by NSW State Wetland Action grants through DIPNR). Jacana are listed as vulnerable and black-necked storks (BNS) are listed as endangered under NSW threatened species legislation.
Giant Barred frog habitat restored
WetlandCare Australia, in partnership with Permaforest Pty Ltd and Gold Coast City Council, has recently completed restoration works along a five hectare section of the Nerang River in order to rehabilitate critical Giant Barred frog habitat. This project saw the removal of over fifteen different types of invasive weeds and the replanting of over 2800 native species.
Shorebird Protection Program
The Lower Hunter Wetlands corridor is internationally recognised as the most significant site for migratory shorebirds in NSW. They use the complex mosaic of roosting and feeding habitats provided across these wetlands. Of the migratory shorebirds present at the Lower Hunter Wetlands Corridor, 38 of the 66 migratory species are listed under the Japan-Australia Migratory Bird Agreement (JAMBA) and the China-Australia Migratory Bird Agreement (CAMBA). These international migratory bird treaties play an important role in international efforts to conserve migratory birds of the East Asian - Australasian Flyway.

Protecting and Recovering Threatened Species
WetlandCare Australia has been working in partnership with local landholders with funding from the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority to protect important areas on the mid-north coast, habitat for the Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater, as well as the endangered Koala and Wompoo Fruit Dove.
Brunswick Saltmarsh maintenance
WetlandCare Australia was commissioned by the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) of New South Wales to prepare a SEPP 14 Compensatory Wetlands Plan (CWP) for three identified compensatory wetlands in March 2007.
Recovery Plan Implementation for Threatened Flora
This project is funded by the NRCMA and involves the implementation or recovery plans for various threatened plants occurring on private property. The project has commenced with field assessments for each species and planning for restoration and conservation actions in a number of sites on the Mid North Coast (Port Macquarie - Coffs Harbour) and Northern Rivers (Ballina - Grafton).
Habitat enhancement and threat abatement - Stage 2
This Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority funded project has accomplished substantial increased recovery outcomes, habitat enhancements and threat reductions for the Bush Stone Curlew, Barking Owl and Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby.
Habitat Enhancement and Threat Abatement Project 06 - 09
WetlandCare Australia has successfully completed a three year Threatened Fauna Habitat Enhancement and Threat Abatement project. Funded by the Northern Rivers CMA, the project has targeted four iconic threatened species – the Bush Stone-Curlew, the Brush Tailed Rock Wallaby, the Barking Owl and the Green and Golden Bell frog.
Threatened Species Habitat Enhancement
During this Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority funded project the distribution of Cynanchum elegans in the area was recorded to establish protected areas. Education programs were conducted throughout the community to educate landholders about the habitat requirements of this endangered plant and about measures that need to be taken to ensure its survival.
Bribie Island wetlands
In an effort to monitor Bribie Island wetlands for future protection, WetlandCare Australia is facilitating the "Bribie Island Wetland Protection and Monitoring" project for the Bribie Island Environmental Protection Association (BIEPA).
Freshwater Fish of the Burdekin
Burdekin Dry Tropics Natural Resource Management (BDTNRM), in collaboration with WetlandCare Australia, produced a booklet that assists in the identification of the regions fascinating freshwater fish species.
Montane Wetland Endangered Ecological Communities
The Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) has provided WCA with funding to work with landholders over the coming year to manage and restore Montane EEC Wetlands within the NRCMA management area.
Montane endangered ecological community (EEC)
Montane wetlands are unique and valuable ecosystems that occur above 600m in altitude and are home to many rare plants and animals; they are also regarded as endangered ecological communities (EEC's). There are two main types of montane wetlands; upland lagoons and montane peatlands.
Giant Barred Frog
WetlandCare Australia and WWF-Australia are working together to protect critical Giant Barred Frog habitat in the Numinbah Valley, south-east Queensland.
Bringing Back the Owls
WetlandCare Australia, in partnership with the Australian Macadamia Society and Southern Cross University, has commenced a field trial that will look at the effect owls may have on reducing macadamia nut crop losses from rats.
