Restoring Fish Habitat in Ballina - With Trees!
WetlandCare Australia has partnered with OzFish Unlimited and Ballina Shire Council to revegetate an area of wetlands adjacent to Chickiba Creek and Angels Beach Road, North Ballina, NSW.
The local community turned out in force on August 9 to get 400 plants in the ground along Chickba Creek, including 6 species of trees. The trees form a link with another section of wetland, creating a continuous strip of habitat that will improve water quality in the creek, directly benefiting the local fish populations.
Healthy vegetation along creeks and waterways improves water quality, creating a better environment for fish to breed resulting in more fish for recreational fishers.
